The hair-oiling ritual

Four small, steady steps.

Apply Keshsar directly to the scalp with the fingertips, draw it down through the lengths, let it rest, then wash it out gently.

01

Take a small amount

Pour a little into a small bowl, or straight onto your fingertips. In cold weather the oil may be set solid; stand the closed bottle in warm water for a few minutes first. A 100 ml bottle goes a long way — most people use far less than they expect.

02

Fingertips, into the scalp

Part the hair in sections and apply the oil directly to the scalp with your fingertips — fingertips, not nails. Massage unhurriedly, in small circles, section by section. Then draw what is left on your hands down through the lengths to the ends; the mid-lengths and ends take as much benefit as the roots. This is the part worth slowing down for.

03

Pause

Leave it on for a few hours or overnight if that suits your routine. Keep the oil away from clothing or bedding that may mark.

04

Wash

Wash with your usual mild cleanser. Shikakai and shampoo are different choices; use the one that suits your routine.

Patch test before first use. A faint herb sediment can be normal in a handmade oil. Gently roll the closed bottle before use if desired, and keep it away from heat and direct sunlight.
