आँवला
Emblica officinalis
Amla is the Indian gooseberry: a firm, translucent green fruit known in many homes first as a pickle, preserve or juice. The tree grows across tropical and subtropical parts of the Indian subcontinent.
After drying, the fruit can be ground into a fine, pale powder. Powdered amla has long been included in household oil preparations and contributes a slightly astringent note to their aroma.
In Keshsar, dried amla is infused into the warm coconut oil base alongside the other botanicals, then removed during careful straining.
